Sankranthi Cock Fights: Sankranthi is one of the festival where everyone in the entire telugu states will be a part of something to celebrate. People will be in joy adn will be celebrating the festival. One of the traditions which make the Sankranthi festival to mark as a special one is the cock fights which will take place in northern Andhra Pradesh and Godavari Delta(Kona Seema).

Even though the courts have banned the sport, cock fights are arranged and organised in rural interiors much with the connivance of the police and political leaders. Since the sport is a part of the festival, no action is usually taken against the organisers as several political hands are involved in it. Even CM Chandrababu Naidu wants the organisers to be in control. The organisers of these fights are getting their roosters for the big fight.

Lakhs of rupees change hands during betting, but we have to see whether it will be held or not this year. This is one of the reasons why the sport has been banned by the court and the other is animal violence. The organisers and participants train their cock for this fight for a whole year.  The price of roosters begins from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Usually, to make the roosters ready for the battle on Sankranthi, organisers feed them with protein diet like cashew, almonds, mutton, pearl millet and revital tablets for strength.

According to Hans India, Young actor Sudheer Babu also has left for Bhimavaram to watch famed cock-fights since it is widely held in East and West Godavari districts during the 4-day Sankranthi festival. “He has to gone to Bhimavaram to watch the cock-fights if they are held, as he heard a lot about it, but never indulges in betting,” said an industry source.
