Amala Paul Surrenders Before Kerala Police In Tax Evasion Case

Popular actress Amala Paul on Monday surrendered before the Thiruvananthapuram Crime Branch police after the agency had indicted her in November last for having used for using fraudulent documents to register her luxury car in the Union territory of Puducherry to evade the 20 percent tax in her home state Kerala.

Tax authorities in Kerala found this out and recommended registration of cases against the actress under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code. IG Indrajith is directly in charge of the investigation into the case. The offences are non-bailable and Amala may face up to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment as punishment.

Earlier, the Crime Branch had also booked Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil and actor turned BJP MP Suresh Gopi with similar charges. It is estimated that over 5000 vehicles purchased from automobile showrooms in Kerala were fraudulently registered in Puducherry over the past two years.
