Sabyasachi Mukherjee Gets Criticized: Sabyasachi Mukherjee is one of the top most designers in India who design Indian wear. They follow the culture and tradition in preparing the clothes and while designing. But recently, he made comments on Indian Women and shamed women who can’t drape a saree. The designer was responding to a question on difficulties women face in draping a saree.
“I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture, (you) need stand up for it,” Sabyasachi told Indian students at the Harvard India Conference. His remarks were received with a resounding applause from the audience. But later on social media, his words has grabbed eye balls and gets a severe backlash on twitter.
The garment, he said, is the most wonderful dress in the world and people across the globe admire it, and identify Indian women with it. Sabyasachi referred to his recent conversation with Deepika Padukone, saying the “Padmaavat” actor, in her own way, is creating disruption in fashion. “She wears saree at all the places she goes,” he told the participants here.

The reaction he received for his comments on social media are angry. A user tweeted, “Shame on you @sabya_mukherjee. Another man all set to put women down on the name of culture. Seriously? Is wearing Saree is all that matters for a women now? or someone shit like you will stand up n say, shame on you for not knowing how to wear it.

Some users has taken it a long way saying, “So much for being a woman, choose your clothes properly, look proper, look mannered; and now you can be ‘shamed’ for not knowing how to drape a saree? And @sabya_mukherjee, just FYI saree is graceful but other outfits just make it so much easier to function on a normal day.”
