Actor Vijay Sarkar hit theatres across the globe as a Diwali treat to the fans of Kollywood actor Vijay. The film stars Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi as leading ladies. Directed by AR Murugadoss who had earlier given Vijay blockbuster hits like Tuppaki and Kathi is back with another Diwali shanks and this time it’s a political thriller titled Sarkar. The early estimation coming from trade indicates that Sarkar has grossed around Rs 30 crore on the first day in Tamil Nadu. It is speculated that the film will continue to have its dream run in the coming days due to the lack of a stiff competition at the box office.
Diwali holiday on its day 2 helped the movie a lot with crowds still rushing at the theatres. As the next day of such big holiday will see a huge drop in collections for even a hit film, we have to wait and see, how Vijay’s film will perform. For now, the movie seems to be heading towards another record-breaking day in Tamil Nadu and decent day in Telugu states. Overseas the movie seems to be taking a beating with the talk
Released in over 3,000 screens, exhibitors started selling tickets at least five days before the release in South India, except in Tamil Nadu. As the tickets sold like hotcakes, the theatres continued to add shows one after the other to meet the unprecedented demand.
A source close to director AR Murugadoss was quoted saying by The Indian Express that the movie has surpassed the day 1 collection of ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ in Tamil Nadu. “Sarkar surpassed the day one collection of Baahubali 2 in the state. And we’re expecting Sarkar to be the highest Tamil grosser,” he said.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, Sarkar stars Vijay in the lead role and also features Keerthy Suresh, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Yogi Babu and Radha Ravi among others. This is the third time when Murugadoss and Vijay have come together for a project.
