RK Nagar Bypoll : Actor Vishal Nomination Rejected again by election comission, Returning Officer K. Velusamy rejected his nomination for the RK Nagar bypoll on the grounds that two of the 10 persons whose names figured as ‘proposers’ disowned their signatures on those papers. The nomination papers filed by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa were also rejected as she had left a number of mandatory columns blank.
RK Nagar, or Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar, is the former Assembly constituency of the late J Jayalalithaa, who died a year ago.
The whole issue was over the proposers for Vishal’s nomination. Two of the ten people listed by the actor in the form had complained that their signatures had been forged. The actor had responded to the earlier decision to cancel his nomination papers with a street protest and later, release of an audio tape that suggested one of the two, Sumathi, had been coerced to withdraw her consent, allegedly by the ruling party.
Vishal expressed his sadness saying it was disheartening for him as the nomination was initially accepted and later rejected after he left. “Democracy at its lowest low!! Disheartening to hear that the nomination made by me was initially accepted & later when I left, has been announced as invalid,” he tweeted.
However, the RO has rejected this claim saying the veracity of the person speaking in the audio clip cannot be confirmed. As consequence, Vishal’s nomination has now been canceled with only valid proposers instead of the required 10.
The ruling AIADMK has fielded senior leader E. Madhusudhanan as its candidate from R.K. Nagar. Dhinakaran is contesting on behalf of the rebel faction while the DMK has fielded N. Marudu Ganesh.A total of 145 people have filed their nominations for the R.K. Nagar bypolls to be held on 21 Decembe
