BMC Elections 2017 Exit Polls :Maharasthra Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Elections are Held on 21st Feburary and the results of same will be declared on February 23. Mumbai witnessed a very low Percentage of Voting, even though it was higher than the voter turnout witnessed in 2007 and 2012 elections, and more than 12 lakh voters found their names missing from the voters’ list.
According to Various exit polls conducted after the BMC elections, results for which will be declared on Thursday, have claimed a neck-and-neck battle between the two main players – BJP and Shiv Sena.According to a latest exit poll, BJP is likely to get around 80-88 seats, while Shiv Sena is projected to get 86-92 seats. The Congress a distant third with 30-34 seats. The same exit poll gave a clear majority to the BJP in Pune and Nagpur, and to Shiv Sena in Thane city. If exit polls are to be believed, the party has been successful in forming its own base in Mumbai and BJP is emerging as the second largest party in the city.
However, political experts state that the alliance with Congress may create a negative impact for Shiv Sena as the political ideologies of both the parties are very different. Experts have also stated that BJP would be happy to be in the opposition in BMC and keep an eye on the Shiv Sena governance in the city. BJP has been attacking Shiv Sena alleging the party for corruption in the municipal council.
Mumbai there were 2,275 candidates in 227 municipal wards in the fray and the vote was expected to be a referendum on the BJP-led Devendra Fadnavis government. As the battle four BMC became a four-way contest, each parties are looking at these elections with an eye on the 2019 assembly polls.The results of the civic and zilla parishad polls will be declared on 23 February.
