On December 30th, 2016, Mr Narendra Modi declared the launch of new online transaction platform, BHIM App. BHIM is a digital payment solution app based on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) with an aim to promoting a cashless economy in India. BHIM has been downloaded over 3 million times in Google Play store enabled over 5 lakh transactions since its launch.
Today, Secretary – Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Aruna Sundararajan, announced that BHIM app crossed 7 million downloads and completed 1 million transactions within a week of launch. Secretary MeitY @SecretaryMEITY, “BHIM App reaches yet another milestone – BHIM completes 1 Mn transactions & crosses 7 Mn downloads within 7 days of launch #DigitalIndia”.
Recently, Bharat Interface for Money or BHIM App has been updated to 1.1. version by National Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) on Wednesday, January 4th. It is the first update since the launch on December 30. The update simply says “bug fixes” without revealing specific bug fix.
BHIM is supported by the host of banks, including State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Punjab National Bank, among others. Currently, BHIM App is only available to download via Google Play Store on Android smartphones. NCPI expected release iOS devices soon.
