Google Assistant Can Now Tell You What Song Is Playing; Rolling Out Now


Google introduced “What song is this” feature on the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones which allowed Assistant to recognise songs without the need of a third-party app like Shazam or SoundHound. Now, Finally, This New Feature is coming to more Android devices through the Google Assistant. According to reports, Google is rolling out this new update for Google Assistant which will allow it to identify songs playing nearby.

To enable this features,  Android user will have to enable voice as the preferred input method. The report adds that the song recognition feature is currently available on select Pixel devices. This feature is also rolled out to Many Android Devices with Google Assistant.  Several reports claim that the rollout of the feature is slow which will mean that it may take some time for it to reach all users.

PressKs Tried this out this new feature on Samsung S8 Plus. We played a Song and tested it. Just press the Home button for a long time or Say Ok Google. Now, the Google Assistant will appear screen. After that, ask “what song is this?” or “what song is playing? or “Song is This”. The song recognition feature will work after users ask the question.

The results include a snippet of the song’s lyrics, plus the main details: artist, album, song, release date, and genre(s). There are also links to potentially play it on YouTube or find it through Google Play or Google Search.
