NASA is preparing for the launch of its InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) mission on May 5, 2018. As Per Reports The organisation Till now received over 2 million requests of booking tickets to Mars, out of which more than 1 lakh requests belong to people of India.Nearly 1,38,899 people have applied from India for traveling to the ‘Red planet’. NASA states that online boarding passes have been sent to the shortlisted people.
According to NASA, India ranked third place in the global list with regard to the number of names submitted for the Mars mission. United States Ranked First with 6,76,773 followed by China with 2,62,752 names.The last week to submit register for the mission ended last week and now NASA won’t accept any further requests.
The names of these participants will be etched on a silicon wafer microchip using an electron beam to form letters with lines one one-thousandth the diameter of a human hair. The microchip will then be attached to the top hull of the InSight lander.
The space mission will take 720 days for completion with the lander touching down on the Red Planet November 26, 2018. It is not the NASA’s first time to carry names to Mars, in 2015 also, nearly 8.27 lakh names were collected by NASA.Further, the mission is dedicated to understanding about the formation and evolution of rocky planets, including Earth.
