DMK Chief Karunanidhi hospitalised after BP drops, condition stable now

Tamilnadu After weeks of treatment at home, Karunanidhi, 94, was admitted to Kauvery Hospital after his blood pressure dropped. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to DMK working president M K Stalin and enquired about the health of his father and party chief M Karunanidhi. Several senior DMK leaders, including working president M K Stalin and his estranged elder brother M K Alagiri were at the hospital.

Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, his daughter Kanimozhi said, “He is better. His blood pressure has stabilised.”

Other frontline leaders such as Duraimurugan, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and former Union minister A Raja were also there.

“I pray for his quick recovery and good health,” Modi tweeted. There was no fresh update from Kauvery Hospital, whose doctors are treating Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence, though a fresh team of doctors are examining him.

Hours before Karunanidhi was moved to the hospital, Stalin had said the former Tamil Nadu chief minister’s health was improving.

On Wednesday, he had assured people that there was nothing to worry about his father’s health. Security was tightened at the former Tamil Nadu chief minister’s residence as DMK cadres kept pouring in there as well.

For the past two years, the DMK president has not been making any public appearance owing to his ill health, but he still holds the top post in the Dravidian party.
