IRCTC Train Ticket Transfer: Good News! Now Passengers Can Transfer Indian Railways Confirmed Tickets to other. Yes, you can happily transfer the ticket to your family members or any other person.Indian Railways has announced that passengers can now transfer their confirmed ticket to another person such as parents, brother, children or spouse. Chief Reservation Supervisors of important stations are authorised by Railways administration to permit the change of a name on a reserved passenger ticket having a seat or berth reserved in his name. But, to avail this facility a passenger would need to submit a written request before 24 hours of scheduled travel.
The same will however be possible following certain guidelines put down by the railways.As per a statement issued by Railways, “Chief Reservation Supervisor of important stations are authorized by Railway Administration to permit the change of name of a passenger having a seat or berth reserved in his name”.
The below is the guideline from the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on how to avail this facility.
For government servants:
According to the notification, if the passenger is a government servant, proceeding on duty, the person can make written request 24 hour before the scheduled departure of trains. The name on the ticket will be changed to another person’s name on whom the ticket is transferred.
For a Marriage Party:
If the passenger is part of a marriage party then the confirmed ticket can be transferred to another person with a written request by an individual deemed to be the head of the group 24 hours before departure.
If the passengers are members of a marriage party, then any person deemed to be head of the group can make a written request 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. The reservation made in the name of any member of the marriage party can be transferred to any other person, in this way.
For Family Members:
A passenger can also transfer his confirmed ticket to another member of his family, meaning, father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband and wife. He/she just needs to make a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
For Recognised education institutions:
Students of recognised institutes need to get a written request from the head of the institution 48 hours before the scheduled departure. The reservation can be transferred from one student to another. Those passengers, who are members of a marriage party, should get written request from the head of the group before the scheduled departure of the train.
For NCC cadets:
The facility of IRCTC train ticket transfer has also been extended to cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC). The officer who is head of the group needs to put in a written request 24 hours before the scheduled departure.For groups, such as NCC cadets, students, and marriage party, request in excess of 10 percent of the total group strength will not be accepted. Also, for individuals, this request shall be granted just once.
This is not the first time that railways had made unprecedented changes in its system. Nearly a week ago, in a bid to promote to digital and cashless transactions, Ministry of Railways had decided that no Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) will be charged if passengers book rail tickets through debit cards for a transaction up to Rs 1 lakh. The passengers can avail this discount at both ticket counters as well as Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website.
