Nanak Shah Fakir is a movie which came to news by the controversy of humans portraying Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The movie has been around Supreme Court for most of its time. But supreme court has made it clear and gave a green flag for the film’s release. The supreme Sikh body, Akal Takht, and the SGPC recently announced a ban on the movie, as the movie is claimed to depict Guru Nanak through human actors, which violates Sikh tenets.

The Government of Punjab has decided against allowing the release of the film. The film producer Harinder Sikka, while announcing his intentions to not release the film in Punjab given the controversies, had in parallel also appealed to the Supreme Court of India to allow for the release of the film. The Supreme court has cleared the film for release, citing the certification provided by India’s Central Board for Film Certification.

What is Nanak Shah Fakir Story ?

The film is based on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Born in 1469, Nanak traveled the world to spread the essence of `Ik Onkar` (there is but One God) as a philosophy and way of life. A philosophy that has survived and risen above the flux of conflict and time, impacting over 50 million followers worldwide and giving birth to Sikhsm as a way of life.

Throughout his life, Guru Nanak shared his blessings of divine knowledge through mystic and soulfully divine music. He sang to the Lord and taught us, ordinary mortals, the virtues of peace, love and harmony. Guru Nanak was referred to as Shah by the Muslims and Fakir by the Hindus, the highest honor given in both religions, and hence came to be known as Nanak Shah Fakir.

Review:

The movie has portrayed everything regarding the Guru Nanak Dev Ji and prominent sikh figures in a good way. They have shown all the characters travelling to different countries to show what they are working for and what it really is. It is one of the good movies one should watch to know more about Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
