TTV Dhinakaran wins RK Nagar bypoll, creates history in Tamil Nadu Politics


Finally, RK Nagar bypoll Winner Name Announced Independent candidate TTV Dhinakaran won a crucial bypoll in Chennai’s Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar), the constituency where J Jayalalithaa won her last two elections.Dhinakaran won the RK Nagarbyelection by a margin of 40,707 votes, defeating his nearest rival E Madhusudhanan of the AIADMK. Dhinakaran got 89,013 votes while Madhusudhanan polled 48,306 votes. DMK candidate N Maruthu Ganesh got only 24,651 votes and lost his deposit. Dhinakaran secured 50.32% of the 1,76,890 votes polled.

A beaming Dhinakaran told reporters in Madurai, “We are the true AIADMK…people of RK Nagar have elected Amma’s successor”. The surging leads show that people want a change of regime, he said, taking a dig at the AIADMK government headed by Chief Minister K Palaniswami.

Meeting reporters at Madurai airport, Mr. Dhinakaran thanked the people of R.K. Nagar for their votes and support. “It doesn’t matter who has the party’s name and symbol because today it has been shown that we are the true AIADMK. It matters who the people and party workers have sided with.”

Mr. Dhinakaran also thanked “1.5 crore” party workers who facilitated his victory and claimed that the AIADMK will lose its ruling party status in three months time.

The R.K. Nagar bypoll was necessitated by the death of Jayalalithaa in 2016.
