Volkswagen Recall: Germany’s automobile Company Volkswagen has finally announced at beginning with the recall process of its high polluting diesel cars, which have been sold in the country. older generation Skoda Superb being first to be fixed, according to Overdrive. In the month of January, the car maker announced the recall across three brands — Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi — which were made between 2008 and November 2015, in India. The recall cannot be initiated till ARAI approves, said industry sources.The cumulative number stands at more than 3 lac cars in total.
The main reason for the delay in recall is cited as approvals from ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). Several other engines from Volkswagen Company sold in India are also awaiting approval of recall. The 1.6-litre and 1.5-litre diesel engine from Volkswagen will soon be recalled in India as well.
Company’s remedies to its engines’ emission behaviors comes in the form of a software update for the 1.5-litre and the 2.0-litre diesel motors, while a more mechanical hardware update by installing a plastic filter in the air intake of the 1.2-litre diesel engine.
The recall process for these vehicles will take quite some time and the German automotive giant is in talks with environmental regulators over what would be the fastest and best way to fix its vehicles in those markets. The Skoda Superb in India is just the first of many recalls to come.
