‘Baahubali 2’, ‘Mersal’ – Most Used Entertainment HashTag on Twitter in 2017


As the year draws to a close, Twitter India has released its annual #ThisHappened report for 2017, which lists of the Tweets, the most popular trends, and most followed personalities on its platform. Micro-blogging site’s report on top trends of 2017 shows that SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 and Mersal topics in the entertainment category were among most talked about subjects on Twitter in 2017 by people using hashtags #Baahubali2 and #Mersal.This will be considered as a proud moment for the South Indian film industries.

Director SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2’  starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka, and Tamannaah,  was simultaneously released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam. This film has become a rage worldwide with its interesting storyline and impressive VFX. Also, created new records In Indian Cinema with Its box office collections. As a result, the topic got good engagement from people across the India.

Coming to Vijay’ Mersal, The first Tamil film to get its own emoji, generated “colossal engagement from the fans of South Indian cinema”. The hashtag #Mersal garnered over 1.7 million tweets in just three days, which made it the top hashtag trend in 2017.

Actor Suriya Sivakumar’s (@Suriya_offl) tweet unveiling the second look for his Tamil film, Thaana Serndha Kootam or #TSK, became the Golden Tweet or most Retweeted Tweet of 2017 in India, with 68,856 retweets, the report said.

Whereas, Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 11 (#BB11) is in the second place among the Top Hashtag Trend of the Year on Twitter in the entertainment category.
