Sathyabama University in Chennai has Declares Holidays till January 3, 2018, and have asked the students to vacate the hostel immediately After Students of the University went on a rampage and set fire to things inside campus on Wednesday night, after a girl student allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room.
The deceased, identified as 18-year-old Duvvuru Monica Reddy, the first year engineering student hailing from Hyderabad, allegedly committed suicide after being scolded for copying during exams. She was attending her second-semester exam and writing engineering chemistry paper, when she was caught indulging in malpractice. Reddy was found hanging from the ceiling of the room by her roommates and her body was sent to the Royapettah government hospital for post-mortem
After the news broke, students of the university went on a rampage and set fire to the hostel building and damaged its lights and other electrical fixtures. Agitated students reportedly claimed that the girl was humiliated by the university staff.
In the videos and the images shared widely on the social media, students have seen setting up the things on fire in the campus.
