‘Pregnant’ woman riding pillion dies after police chases her for not wearing helmet


Tamilnadu: Shocking Incident Took Place in Chennai, A pregnant woman riding pillion died after a police inspector allegedly kicked a two-wheeler while chasing the couple for a traffic violation. The incident took place in Tiruchy, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.The victim, Usha was three-months pregnant and was riding pillion on the bike along with her husband, Dharamraj, who wasn’t wearing a helmet.

As the traffic policeman, identified as Kamaraj, signaled the bike to be stopped, the victim’s husband refused and instead fled from the spot initiating a chase.Within minutes, the cop caught up with the couple and kicked the two-wheeler forcing both the riders to fall down on the busy road. Before Usha could realize what had happened, she was hit by a speeding van, killing her on the spot, reports said.

Usha who was pregnant died on the spot, while Raja has suffered serious injuries from the fall. Within no time, hundreds of people gathered at the spot and the inspector fled the scene.

The situation turned violent as some of the protesters started to pelt stones at police vehicles. The police too retaliated with lathicharge to clear the agitators, severely injuring many.

Deputy Commissioner Sakthi Ganesh, who arrived on the scene where the agitators were protesting, promised that necessary action will be taken.

According to news reports, over 3000 people gathered at the spot and agitated over the death. Despite the police informing of the arrest they refused to disperse.
