A woman who threw a message in a bottle into the sea discovered the same after 29 years through social media. On 26th September 1988, an 8-year-old girl named Miranda Chavez wrote a message, put it in a bottle and threw it into the sea on Edisto Beach. A couple who were sweeping the Edisto beach found this letter with the bottle and surprised to see the letter written by an 8 year old.

They immediately took to social media, i.e., facebook and posted about the incident. Before they wrote into social media, they searched for the girl named Miranda and even they went through the telephone directory which gave them dead end in their search. But the final thing which they did is posting in social media with the name and the picture of the letter.

They went on to write, “David made a remarkable discovery while we were doing a beach sweep on Sapelo Island this morning. He found this message in a bottle tossed from Edisto, SC….29 years ago! We have a current name and city for the now 37 year-old sender, but any phone #’s we’ve found were dead ends. Will keep trying. Anyone with a Columbia, SC directory is welcome to contact me.”

Chavez found her letter through social media and was very smart to include the address at that time. She said, “Who would have thought? It’s so awesome how something that small — no matter what you’ve got going on in your life — can take you back to your childhood and to some of the absolute happiest times of your life. It was meant to be found. It was meant to do something, even if it was just to have people have something positive to say for a few days. I guess it served its purpose.”
