Chinese Doctors Removed More than 100 fish bones removed from Chinese man’s rectum In two-hour-long operation doctors worked to pull needle-like bones from the man’s anus. The Patient who is 63-year-old senior from Sichuan province, given the pseudonym Zhou, had feasted one night on a dinner of boiled carp soup. Because the fish was relatively small, he decided to simply devour it all — including the bones, Chengdu Business Daily reports.
Though the bones hurt him a bit by scraping his esophagus on the way down, that pain was soon gone and Zhou went back to life as usual. However, the bones did not end up coming out as easily as they had come in. A few days later when he tried to use the bathroom, Zhou felt a severe pain in the butt.
A CT scan showed fish bones stuck in his rectum. In the two-hour procedure, doctors worked to pull around 100 bones from the man’s anus. “A patient with this many fish bones was a first for us,” Huang Zhiyin, a doctor from West China Hospital of Sichuan University said. “The most we’ve had to remove was around 10 or so.”
Huang explained it was a tricky procedure with a high risk of blood loss.
“Due to so many bones and his rectum was severely swollen, we couldn’t get them all at once,” he said. “So we asked him to return home to rest for a few days to see if he’d pass the rest on his own.”
