Dipa Karmakar to Return BMW Car: Gymnast Dipa Karmakar’s who became an overnight success during Rio Olympics 2016, is all set to return her Return BMW which gifted to her by Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. However, owing to maintenance issues, Dipa has decided to return her gift to the original owner V Chamundeswaranath, president of the Hyderabad Badminton Association.
According to a reports She was gifted a BMW XI vehicle, which costs anywhere between Rs 30 to Rs 35 lakh, at a function in Hyderabad organised by the Badminton Association of Hyderabad.“Roads in Tripura are not good enough to drive such a vehicle. There are no capable drivers in Agartala town to drive a BMW and the company has no showroom or service centre in the state,” he said.
Speaking to the newspaper, coach Bishewar Nandi, who was awarded with the prestigious Dronacharya Award this year, said that the decision to return the car was taken by both him and the gymnast’s family. Agartala may have forced Dipa to take this step, the main reason behind her decision appear to be her training for the Challengers Cup. The Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) apparently has stated to Nandi that Dipa can travel to Germany, the venue for the competition, only if the Indian camp can put together a six member team.
More Ever Dipa is said to have spoken to V. Chamundeshwarnath, president of the Hyderabad Badminton Association and the sponsor of the car, who suggested giving her an amount equivalent of the car.
