Amazon Canada removes Indian flag doormat selling link after Stern Warning by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. amazon.com removed doormats resembling the Indian tri-colour flag from its Canadian website on Wednesday, after an Indian government threat to rescind visas of the U.S. company’s employees.
Sushma Swaraj, the country’s external affairs minister, used Twitter to demand Amazon “tender unconditional apology” and “withdraw all products insulting our national flag immediately”, after another user alerted to the listings.
She tweeted ” Amazon must tender unconditional apology. They must withdraw all products insulting our national flag immediately. If this is not done forthwith, we will not grant Indian Visa to any Amazon official. We will also rescind the Visas issued earlier.”
Swaraj’s stern warning was a response to a tweet sent to her by one of her followers Atul Bhobe, who tagged her with a screenshot of the page listing the products. “Madam. Amazon Canada must be censured and warned not to sell India flag doormats. Please take action,” the tweet read.
Swaraj shot off a response to the Indian High Commission in Canada: “This is unacceptable. Please take this up with Amazon at the highest level.”
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is not only helping out Indians in distress, she is also protecting India’s pride manifested through national symbols. On Wednesday she forced Amazon to remove a doormat depicting the indian flag images hd and sought an unconditional apology and she said that the company’s officials will not be allowed entry in India.
