IPS Officer Safeer Karim Who was caught cheating in the UPSC (Main) examination by IB sleuths on October 30 and was arrested by Chennai police, may have been involved in a wider racket in helping other candidates cheat to become IAS, IPS in Munna Bhai style. As Per Police Investigation the accused IP officer, who hails from Aluva in Kerala, has also used the same underhand technique to help students of his coaching centres to pass the UPSC exams.
“We are checking Karim’s Google Drive account and Social Media Accounts because he used it to transfer images of the UPSC Mains question papers in Chennai and those of the preliminary exam that he took in Madurai,” an investigating officer told the Times of India.The officer also added that by using electronic devices and Google’s cloud storage system, Kareem could have helped candidates from his institute successfully cheat in the civil service and other competitive tests.
The police will now question his friends and close relatives of Karim again in an attempt to reveal more frauds which the accused has possibly committed, including details regarding his IPS tests.Joicy wife of Karim Wife is also arrested and jailed for dictating answers to her husband, was recently granted bail as their one-year-old daughter Zia fell ill in jail.
Till Now Police Recovered 11 cellphones, one laptop, one tablet, four hard disks and a pen drive have been seized from the accused and they have been sent to the forensic sciences lab in Mylapore for tests.However, contrary to earlier police statements, another investigating officer on Monday clarified that Karim did not carry a cellphone into the UPSC (Main) exam centre in Presidency Higher Secondary School for Girls, Egmore, when IB sleuths caught him.
All these devices have been sent to a forensic lab to check if they had been used on other occasions also to help the students cheat in the examinations.
The final forensic report is expected in two weeks time.
