QS BRICS University Ranking: Two Indian Universities are listed among the top 10 universities across Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. These top Indian varsities include the IITs, IISc, state universities and others. The BRICS ranking has been compiled using eight different indicators, including the ratio of faculty to students, the proportion of academic staff with a PhD and the institution’s reputation among academics and employers.

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2018 that was released on Thursday has placed the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras at the 264th rank among world universities. Among world universities, it is placed in the 651 to 700 rank band for citation per faculty of research papers. There are eight things as said were considered to make give ranking to the university.

QS BRICS University Ranking Puts IIT-Bombay & IISc Bangalore in Top 10:

Established in 1958, the second of its kind, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance. The funds from UNESCO came as Roubles from the then Soviet Union. In 1961 Parliament decreed the IITs as ‘Institutes of National Importance’. The institute saw an increase in its rank from 13 in 2017 to 8 in 2018. It ranked 9th according to the latest QS BRICS University Ranking.

IISc Bangalore – The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was founded in 1909 as a result of the joint efforts of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Government of India, and the Maharaja of Mysore. In 1886, Jamsetji Tata conceived of a university of science that will work for the benefit of India, and in 1898 created an endowment for establishing such an institution. The ranking of the institute saw a fall from 6 in 2017 to 10 in 2018. It ranked 10th in the latest QS BRICS Countries Rankings. IIT-M placed 264th in world ranking.

The BRICS website shows, The BRICS ranking is compiled using eight different indicators, including the ratio of faculty to students, the proportion of academic staff with a Ph.D and the institution’s reputation among academics and employers. The ranking organisation has placed the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru at the 190th rank among world institutions.
