Watch: ‘I Won’t Survive,’ Says Doordarshan Crew Member Attacked by Maoist

A video of a member of national broadcaster Doordarshan has emerged from Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada after a cameraman and two policemen were killed in an attack by Naxals in the state on Tuesday, 30 October. “We are in Dantewada for the election coverage and we have been attacked,” says the crew member, Mormukut Sharma, in the video. Gunshots can be heard in the video while the DD crew member explains the situation on the ground.

In the video, the assistant cameraperson Mormukt expressed his love for mother and said he might not survive the attack.

“The situation here is grave but I am not afraid of death,” he said while recording the video.

Mormukut Sharma was accompanied by reporter Dhiraj Kumar and cameraperson Achutynanda Sahu who arrived in Bastar Monday to cover the election where the cameraperson and two police personnel were killed in the Maoist attack.

The two other injured personnel were airlifted to Raipur and are said to be stable. The attack took place at around 11 am in a forest area near Nilawaya village, as per Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P.

In its condolence message on Twitter, Doordarshan News said, “#DDNews had debuted the team to cover #Chhattisgarhpolls, comprising of Camera person-Achyuta Nanda Sahu, Dheeraj Kumar, and MM Sharma. In a #Naxal attack AchyutaNandaSahu was martyred. The entire #DDNnews Family salutes his service and stands by his family in this hour of grief.”
